Luke Micallef and Ritienne Zammit claimed the 10K National Championship at the Marsa track after delivering commanding performances in their respective races. Micallef powered to victory in 30:34.65, setting a new Over-35 national record in the process, as he finished ahead of Isaac Leo Attard of Gozo Athletix and Charlton Debono of Evolve. In the women’s race, Zammit registered a strong time of 38:32.75, further cementing her status as one of Malta’s rising athletics talents.
This weekend, Athletics Malta also held Challenge Meeting Three, where two category records fell throughout a number of competitive races.
Benjamin Salnitro produced a standout run in the 110m hurdles, clocking 14.16s to establish a new Under-20 record, while Sophia Curmi set a new Under-16 hammer throw record with a formidable 55.23m effort.
The 100m sprints once again delivered exciting performances, with Omar El Aida Chaffey confirming his early-season dominance by winning the men’s race in 10.71s, ahead of Graham Pellegrini’s 10.82. In the women’s event, Claire Azzopardi once again crossed the line first in 11.66s, ahead of Thea Parnis Coleiro’s 11.92. Then latter then took top honours in the 200m, stopping the clock at 25.12s.
Other notable performances included Matthew Galea Soler’s strong 47.45 in the 400m, while Martha Spiteri impressed in the women’s event with 57.58s. Kayleigh Anne Ellul also delivered a solid showing in the 100m hurdles, with her 15.26s timing falling just six second short of a category record. In the 400m hurdles, Ali El Fannouri registered a strong time in the Under 18 category, taking top spot in 54.30s.
